Kalaru is surrounded by two Pristine National Parks, Bournda and Mimosa. Both provide picnic spots, bbq's secluded beaches and beach walks.
Bournda
Of the park's natural features, the wetland areas around the mouth of Wallagoot Lake stand out. These provide valuable habitat for a range of both local and migratory waterbirds in addition to playing a vital role in protecting the fish and prawn nursery grounds for which the Lake is well known.
Mimosa
Mimosa Rocks National Park covers an area of 5,230 ha and embraces 17 km of coastline. The park is heavily timbered and contains a diverse system of beaches, sea caves, headlands, cliffs, offshore stacks and lagoons.
Picnic facilities are provided at Picnic Point, Bithry Inlet and Middle Beach. Short walking tracks are in place at some locations to provide visitors with access around the area.
Further information on recreational activities within the park is contained on visitor information displays at Middle Beach, Bithry Inlet and Aragunnu.
